Leeds United       2  (Roofe 45+3, 53 pen)

QPR                        1  (Wells 26)

There’s something strange about Leeds United games this season, it’s been apparent for a while now. After years of everything seemingly going against us – poor refereeing decisions, errors of judgement by our own players, disciplinary decisions, worldie goals flying in against us, you name it, we can all point at a plethora of such things – suddenly, the rub of the green is, more often than not, going with us and not ‘agin us’.

So, against Reading we had the Peacock-Farrell penalty save; I know there is an argument for saying that was just BPFs brilliance but, hey, he had to guess the right way! At Bramall Lane last time out, Dean Henderson had a moment of brain fade and then, today, we had the penalty, our first in over 58 games! Now, again, I am convinced that Leistner DID handle the ball, he seemed to swat it away, so that’s not our luck to get the penalty… but it was lucky that the ref saw it and gave it this time! In the past we’ve had such calls missed or rejected outright.

Three consecutive games, three decisive moments that went in our favour and three times it meant we claimed all three points! Long may this continue.

It would of course be far better if we didn’t actually have to rely on such pivotal moments and once again today we probably should have been out of sight by half time! Four times in the first half Kemar Roofe found himself behind the QPR back line, the goal line only feet away and three times he either missed the ball or missed the target! Thankfully, the fourth time, he got something on a little poked through-ball from Pablo Hernandez and the ball, somehow or another, found its way into the bottom corner. Maybe that was another moment where the football gods just gave the ball a little nudge in the right direction! Maybe the angels are with us!

Kalvin Phillips and Pontus Jansson will possibly also both think they should have dealt with that long ball better too; Nahki Wells is a clever player but he should never have been allowed to get past both our centre backs as easily as that. No, matter, we rescued the situation and six wins, one defeat and one draw from eight league games is the stuff of promotion winners. The Bielsa system is holding up well under the strain of an ever changing, injury plagued defence and with some of the wounded soldiers about to return into battle the outlook has to be bright. Bolton are next up and they will be another difficult challenge as they showed today against our current closest rivals: Norwich City.
